    ADA Solutions: FAQs

When choosing a detectable warning system for your business, it is important to make sure all your questions are answered about the product you select. For information about our truncated dome tiles, check out this list of frequently asked questions.

What are detectable warning tiles made of?

Our tiles are made of a glass and carbon composite reinforced with fiberglass that is colorfast and resistant to UV damage and temperature change. Salt used to thaw ice will have no effect on the tiles, and even spray paint can be easily removed. You can count on our detectable warning tiles to last for years, whether you’re installing them in a new project or retrofitting an older structure to comply with regulations set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act.

How do I install detectable warning tiles?

We provide adhesive and fasteners with each tile, so all you’ll need is a sealant to seal the perimeter of the tile. Do not install in very cold weather; the adhesive needs to cure at a temperature above 30 degrees Fahrenheit. If you need any help, we can also provide a brochure with installation instructions. If you need to cut our tiles to fit your custom space, use a continuous-rim diamond blade or a 32-tooth carbide-tip blade. Note that we do not recommend cutting our replaceable tiles.

What varieties of detectable warning tiles can I buy?

Though all of our tiles are sturdy, durable, and easy to install, some might fit your needs a bit better than others. For new construction, you might choose wet-set or cast-in-place replaceable tiles, which are designed to be pressed into wet concrete. Our surface-mounted system, on the other hand, can be used to bring existing ramps into compliance; this warning system fits as close to the concrete surface as possible.

For detectable warning systems for your curbs and ramps, trust ADA Solutions, Inc. to provide high-quality tiles that will last through weather, use, and daily wear. For more information about our line of products, or to speak to a representative about which one is best for you, call (800) 372-0519.

    Benefits of Radius Installations

    Last updated 1 year ago

Straight warning tiles are not always suited for every situation, and cutting them into curves can be difficult and time-consuming. To save yourself time and effort, try our radius detectable warning systems for curved sections of your construction project. Read on for just a few of the benefits of this great product.

    • Fewer man-hours: When you’re working on a sidewalk construction project, you need to make the best possible use of every hour of your workers’ time. Cutting our durable detectable warning tiles takes time and skill. However, our radius installation tiles take less time to install because they are already formed to the correct shape.
    • Less material: Cutting square or rectangular tiles into a curve will produce waste scraps which cannot be reused. This means you’ll have to purchase more tile than you actually need and then simply throw it away. Our radius installations make it possible to fit a curve without wasting material, which saves you money.

    • Pre-scored tiles: All our radius tiles come pre-scored at 10-, 15-, and 20-foot radii, so they are adaptable to any situation or project. The material is both easier to cut and more versatile because of this pre-scoring, so it will fit any curve you are working with. This feature will decrease your necessary man-hours even further.
    • New and old construction compatibility: If you’re working on a new construction project and pouring new concrete, you’ll love our cast-in-place tiles, which can simply be pressed in before the cement dries, creating a seamless finish. If you’re retrofitting an existing construction, our surface-mounted tiles offer a great way to make your structure accessible and ADA compliant. These tiles have beveled edges for a smooth transition between the warning system and the surrounding surface.

Our radius installation detectable warning tiles are easy to install and maintain, and they will last for years. For more information about how ADA Solutions, Inc. can help you make any construction project safer and easier, call us at (800) 372-0519.

How to Understand the Americans with Disabilities Act

    Last updated 1 year ago

Service dogs provide tremendous assistance to individuals with disabilities and offer much more than companionship. To learn more about these important animals and the Americans with Disabilities Act’s guidelines for service dogs, watch this video.

Service dogs and their handlers cannot be prohibited access to any public area like a movie theater, doctor’s office, or restaurant, and the handler cannot be charged extra in any way because of the dog. However, the handler is responsible for the dog’s behavior and may be asked to leave if the dog is disruptive.

What it Means to Meet ADA, ADAAG, and PROWAG Requirements

    Last updated 1 year ago

The Americans with Disabilities Act, Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines, and Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines are vital federal regulations that ensure all Americans have safe access to public spaces and pedestrian walkways. To meet these requirements, detectable warnings must be included in all of the following locations.

    • Railway crossings: Railway crossings must be marked by detectable warnings to prevent visually impaired pedestrians from walking onto tracks.
    • Platform edges: Around trains and subways, the edge of every platform must be bordered by detectable warnings to prevent individuals with handicaps from accessing the track.
    • Crosswalks: Each end of a crosswalk must feature detectable warnings to alert those with visual impairments to the transition between street and sidewalk.

    • Medians: In the middle of large intersections, medians have areas of refuge for those who can’t make it all the way across the intersection before the light changes. These areas must feature detectable warnings to alert pedestrians to the safe zone.
    • Pools: The perimeter of reflection pools must be indicated by railings or detectable warnings in order to alert those with visual impairments to the hazard. Without a warning, pedestrians run the risk of failing to notice the hazard.
    • Crossings of vehicular ways: Wherever pedestrian and vehicular paths meet without any other indication, detectable warnings must be present for the safety of those with disabilities. Note, however, that driveways do not need to be indicated by detectable warnings.
    • Sidewalk ramps: All sidewalk and curb ramps must feature detectable warnings. These are especially important because many individuals with visual impairments cannot detect subtle surface gradients with their canes and may walk into the street. The addition of detectable warnings keeps them safe in this situation.

To ensure the safety of individuals with disabilities and protect your business from litigation, be sure to abide by these regulations and use detectable warnings where appropriate. ADA Solutions, Inc. offers detectable warnings for new construction products and retrofits in a number of colors; all of our products are ADA, ADAAG, and PROWAG compliant. Call (800) 372-0519 for more information.
