For town planners and urban construction teams, LEED certification is highly prized. Certification often means lower operating costs and eligibility for rewards from local, state, and federal government agencies. ADA Solutions, Inc. can help you meet LEED certification guidelines with our environmentally friendly products. Our truncated dome tactile warning strips will also help you meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. Here is what you need to know about LEED certification and how our warning strips can help you become compliant:
What Is LEED Certification?
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to set standards for eco-friendly construction. By setting requirements for certification, the goal is to encourage the growth of communities that rely on new, green technologies and building techniques.
There are five LEED certification categories, each of which encompasses a different aspect of design, maintenance, and construction. A point system is used to evaluate how green a particular business, neighborhood, or construction method is. Things like water and energy efficiency and sustainability of materials are considered. To become LEED certified, a score of at least 40 out of 100 is required.
How Can ADA Solutions, Inc. Help?
One of the LEED certification categories is Neighborhood Development—this is where ADA Solutions can really help. We assist our clients in achieving prized LEED certification in this category in two ways. First, one of the requirements for certification is that streets in new construction areas and existing communities must be fitted or retrofitted with ADA-compliant warning systems for street crossings. We are an industry leader in supplying tactile warning strips with truncated domes that meet these requirements.
Second, our products meet LEED material and resource requirements, to help you meet guidelines for recyclable and renewable materials.

The Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, is a law that all private employers with over 15 employees must comply with. Failing to adhere to ADA guidelines could result in costly fines, but avoiding these fees is not the only benefit to employers. ADA guidelines will also help you create a safer workplace that allows you to get the maximum potential from all of your employees, since no one will have any barriers to getting their jobs done. At ADA Solutions, Inc., we help many businesses better understand and comply with ADA guidelines. Here are some things you need to know about the ADA as an employer:
Who Is Protected Under the ADA?
The ADA prevents employers from discriminating against job applicants and employees who have a physical or mental disability that limits one or more major functions, such as vision, walking, self-care, or breathing. The ADA applies to people with mobility constraints and people with conditions like HIV, epilepsy, and blindness. These guidelines do not apply to people with non-chronic impairments and short-term illnesses.
How Do You Identify Someone As Disabled?
You can ask applicants to self-identify themselves as disabled on job applications, as long as you do not use that information in a discriminatory manner. If you have a disabled applicant who has the same skills and abilities as a non-disabled applicant, you can’t use the disability as a deciding factor in your employment decision.
What Accommodations Do You Need to Make?
The ADA requires that you make “reasonable accommodations” for disabled employees. This means you have to fix any barriers that prevent them from doing their jobs or from accessing benefits and rights that other employees have. This could include making changes to schedules, adapting training materials, swapping out some of the equipment you use, and more.
At ADA Solutions, Inc., we can help you understand your obligations under the ADA. Our detectable warning systems with truncated domes play an important role in making street crossings, parking lots, and other areas safe for people with disabilities. Our truncated dome strips may be ideal for your entryway or other areas around your building. Learn more about tactile warning systems and more by calling (800) 372-0519.
